OOTD

Away with the Fairies.

Today I wanted to share with you something that is very close to my heart, quite literally. You may have noticed my necklace I wear in everyone of my pictures. It is a modern take on the friendship necklaces. A broken heart or a puzzle piece that you would share with your best friend. Each of you would wear one half to symbolise your friendship. In my case I wear a pair of fairy wings and two dainty stars on a delicate silver chain.
A gift I received from my mother on my 21st birthday & since that day almost two years on I haven't taken it off. It represents a friendship that I will never forget, a friendship that shaped me into the person I am today, the best friend I lost to cancer two years ago. Are initials are engraved into the wings and stamped very carefully on the stars, having this around my neck keeps a little piece of Faye with me all the time.
My Fairy Princess who is flying high now, soaring, making a difference.
As I very rarely wear a V-Neck  this dress highlights the only special piece of jewellery I own, thank you wonderful thrifty dress.

Dress - Thifted
Leggings - Primark
Shoes - Primark
Necklace - Hairy Growler

Hairy Growler is the comically named company where Les Anderson turns discarded antique's into wearable wonders. Using only 100% recycled raw materials the people behind this will weave wonders & turn a pre 1919 English coin into an inspiring piece that will be sure to get you noticed.
Over the last two years I have been constantly asked where I purchased my necklace and I am proud to say that this is a one of a kind, specially made to cater to my needs.
Thank you to everyone at Hairy Growler for creating my own work of art that keeps Faye close to my heart.

What special items do you own?

  1. This is gorgeous Laurie, such a great keepsake. Strangely Im not sure I even own any "special" items. How sad is that?! There's nothing that I wear every day (especially as I cant for my job). I do have a bear charm which I keep in my purse as a mindful thing and lucky charm. xxx

  5. aah beautiful post! Beautiful necklace and a beautiful way of producing it too, a beautiful story behind it but sad at the same time too.. For my 18th my nan gave me her sterling silver charm bracelet which made me so happy as we'd recently found out that nanny had cancer, she's such a young fabulous nanny too with bags of style and is a huge antique collector and very quirky too, she's amazing! Never thought i'd be saying that i have a piece of special jewellery that's been handed down to me, but i do now.. I also had a little nosey at your other posts and i think that your gingery hair colour now is gorgeous, keep it! xxxxxxx

  6. I love the idea of a friendship necklace and the fact that it's so personal to you is beautiful. It's difficult to lose somebody but like you said, you can keep them always close to your heart now. Such an inspiring post, thank you. :)
